Journal Impact Factor

  • Journal Impact Factor has been used by JCR since 1975 to measure the significance of a journal in relation to others.
  • It is calculated using this simple formula:

 __________________________________________________________________________

                        # of citable items in previous 2 years

Eigenfactor

  • The Eigenfactor score is measured using 5-year data based on Web of Science Journal Citation Reports.
  • Essentially a ratio of number of citations to total number of articles, adding weighting to citations according to the influence of the citing journal. Journals with more articles get higher ranking.
  • Self-citations are also removed from the calculation.
