Reviewing the literature

Protocol content

This will vary depending on your review type. In general, a basic review protocol will include:

  1. Introduction: including the research objectives and aims
  2. The search process: Where you will search, a sample search strategy, any search frameworks used such as PCC or PICO
  3. The selection process: Inclusion and exclusion criteria, how disagreements will be resolved, how quality and bias will be assessed if relevant
  4. The charting process: What data will be extracted and analysed
