Generative AI or Large Language Models, such as ChatGPT, and other machine learning tools, are starting to be used in reviews for a range of tasks like screening and data extraction.
While they can be useful to speed up parts of the process and save time, understanding the bias and limitations of tools is important.
For example, the accuracy of outputs, the time required to learn how to use the tool and ‘train’ it, and the need for a person to manually check and correct errors needs to be carefully considered.
For more information on the use of Generative AI, see the Federation University guide to Generative artificial intelligence: Use at university.
