Tips for studying online


  1. If you do not know your Federation Email it is: <StudentNumber>
  2. If you do not know your password you should reset straight away - go here
  3. To log in to Outlook or Teams via a desktop go to and sign in with your Federation email and password
    1. If you have a personal Office 365 account or you are logged into a work organisation Office 365 account you may need to Sign Out of Office (in the top right of screen) and log back in as a Federation University student
  4. You can download Office desktop apps, Outlook, or Teams to your computer or smart device – login with your Federation Email and Password


Student ITS tips to managing virtual learning:

  1. To access your Student Emails for updates and instructions,  virtual classes using Teams or to access Office 365 follow the instructions on this page
  2. If you are prompted to sign into Microsoft make sure you enter your Federation student email address <StudentNumber> e.g.
  3. For support, students can search for articles from the IT Help Portal or visit the ITS Student support page
  4. Teams tips:
    • Student can download a smart device app (Apple or Android device) – To sign in enter your Federation email address
      1. If you do not know your password – see above and reset it first
    • As a student if you are invited to join a team or to attend a team meeting its important you sign in to MS Teams using your Federation student email address
      1. If your personal account or work organisation also uses Office 365 you may need to Sign Out of office (in the top right of screen) and log back in as a Federation University student
    • If your teacher has asked you to join a Team using a code – follow the video instructions on this page
