Accessing Building Code of Australia Online

Accessing the BCA

To access start from the FedUni Library website at federation.edu.au/library

  • select QuickSearch and enter the search terms "building code of Australia".
  • the BCA is a resource that requires a log in; to access the login details click on View Online. This link gives access to the database and the log in details - remember to have the log in details before opening the database.
  • only one user can be logged on to the BCA at any one time; if it is in use, you will need to wait until it is available, before you can gain access to it.

This is the default screen and you can search across either or both of the BCA Volumes or related Australian Standards or BCA bulletins. Search results will display the relevant volume and page heading; click the page heading to view the document. To get back to the list of search results, click on the Search Results icon in the grey toolbar at the bottom of the page.

Use the drop down heading next to Current NCC to browse the indexes of the individual volumes and link to relevant sections from there. Volume One relates mainly to Class 2 to 9 buildings, and Volume Two relates mainly to Class 1 and 10 buildings (Housing Provisions).

Bulletins

The Bulletins tab takes you to the list of Australian Building Regulation Bulletins which you can then view. The Bulletin is a technical industry magazine published twice a year, which focuses on BCA related issues and includes technical papers, expert opinions and feature articles.

Archives

The Archives tab lists previous versions of the BCA which can also be viewed.

Be aware that your ability to save and print material found on BCA is limited to:

  • Paper reproductions of downloaded standards, must be for internal organisation use only;
  • Downloaded and stored electronic copies are for temporary off-line use. The Licensee acknowledges that downloaded copies are encoded with a predetermined expiry date, after which they cease to be accessible.

Logging Out

Please note

When you have finished using the BCA, click the Logout tab to make it available to other users. You will be automatically logged out if the resource has been idle for 20 minutes, in which case you will need to log in again to continue.
